CIWM has welcomed the inclusion in yesterday’s (19 December 2019) Queen’s speech of an Environment Bill which “will enshrine in law environmental principles and legally-binding targets.”
With the last Queen’s speech taking place just three months ago, there were no major surprises in the government’s priorities for the months ahead. Reflecting the previous Environment Bill, which was first introduced on 15 October 2019, the speech stated that “a new, world-leading independent regulator in statute will be established.” The Queen also re-affirmed the Conservative Party’s manifesto commitment to “ban the export of polluting plastic waste to countries outside the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.”
